Translator’s Note: I cut this chapter a little short because I break it off before it becomes NSFW. Are you excited for the next chapter?

Even if Alfred wanted to stand up, his body wouldn’t move. He only grew more impatient by the moment.

He was desperately thinking about how to get Lian away from here as quickly as possible.

He thought if he didn’t, Lian would be taken somewhere far, far away, somewhere he could not reach.

If Lian was somewhere in this world, no matter where Lian went, Alfred would follow him.

But what if—

What if the place he went to wasn’t in this world?

—What if the Goddess took him somewhere?

Alfred thought back to a time when he hadn’t known anything. He would have laughed it off, thinking that such a thing couldn’t happen, that gods were nothing more than convenient delusions, and that such things didn’t exist.

However, now…

Now he couldn’t laugh it off anymore.

There was a war raging within him that he could do nothing about.

When Alfred was young, that guy… at some point, that guy looked at him softly as if his eyes were made of wool that Alfred could lie down in. Lian’s gaze softly embraced him. Over time, other things started raising flags. No longer did things seem as they appeared.

Alfred had been told by a star-reading fortune teller that a calamity would strike him and take everything precious from him in the not-too-distant future.

At the same time, Lian had been desperate to protect the village from monsters that could come at any time.

One time, Lian had reached his hand out to the sky as if the heavens would reach back out to him, touch him, and grab his hand.

One time, when Alfred touched Lian while he slept, Alfred saw everything in existence bathed in pure white light.

These little signs… They piled up little by little.

The combination of all of them pointed to the answer—there was only one truth hidden in all of these lies.

Alfred was now aware of that, but he kept pretending to not notice.

Lian wanted that too, and if that was the case… Alfred couldn’t help but feel like one day, he would disappear from his sight.

The thought struck fear in his heart.

Nevertheless.

There he was in front of Alfred.

Schultzer had called Lian the Goddess’ “Messenger.”

Lian didn’t immediately deny it.

On the contrary, he called out the name of the Goddess to the sky in heaven. He raised his voice as if volume was what was needed to reach her.

And what happened was as if in response to Lian’s call. That pure white light bathed everything in existence, just like before.

The light rained down so that nothing left in sight was uncovered.

To be honest, Alfred didn’t really want to remember that time.

The small, warm star that had always been by Alfred’s side… Alfred was so scared that his whole body would tremble at the thought that it might be taken away or lost.

Lian would be taken from me, Alfred thought.

The village he had worked so hard to protect was already more than enough.

Perhaps the Goddess has decided that enough was enough and was trying to take Lian back.

—My precious “messenger.”

Alfred desperately grabbed him so that nobody would take him away.

Alfred wouldn’t allow anyone to take Lian away from him without his permission. It didn’t even matter if it was a goddess. Alfred won’t let him be taken away.

And as Alfred desperately grabbed him—

Before he knew it, the white light had disappeared.

Alfred didn’t know what had happened. He still had a warm body in his arms, relieved that it hadn’t disappeared. That he hadn’t been taken away. Alfred’s head was crumbling with confusion and turmoil. Desperately checking the current situation, Alfred heard Lian and Schultz talking to each other quietly.

Alfred was so preoccupied thinking that he would never let them take Lian away that he couldn’t think of anything else to hear or say, so he was still fuzzy on what they were talking about. Alfred couldn’t remember exactly.

“Let’s go back to the village” was all Alfred heard. And that was simply because Lian had called Alfred’s name with his usual calm and soft voice and told him so.

The white light was nowhere to be seen anymore, and the roar of the world had come to a whisper.

There, in front of Alfred, was Lian.

With warm hands and arms, he hugged Alfred.

Alfred remembered that Schutzer had told Lian to do whatever he wanted.

Schutzer had said that was the Goddess’ new oracle.

Lian then promised Alfred that he wouldn’t go anywhere.

Finally, thought Alfred.

─Yes, Lian doesn’t have to be taken away. The Goddess gave up on taking her servant back, taking him away from me.

I understand.

Finally, at that moment, indeed, from the bottom of Alfred’s heart, he was relieved.

A gentle breeze blew into the room once more.

The owner of the room was sleeping peacefully and comfortably.

His chest rose and fell as he breathed calmly.

When Alfred gently put his ear to the other person’s chest, he could feel Lian’s warmth and slow heartbeat. As Alfred listened, he became calm and relieved.

Are you having a good dream? Lian’s mouth and eyes had slightly loosened as if smiling.

He really is cute. Alfred, without thinking, dropped his lips onto Lian’s forehead.

“…Nnn…?”

Lian’s eyelids opened slightly.

After wandering around the room, the icy blue eyes looked up to meet Alfred’s.

He smiled softly.

“…Al…fred…?”

When Alfred pulled his lips back from the kiss to Lian’s temple, Alfred narrowed his eyes and smiled softly. Alfred dropped his lips once more to kiss Lian’s; his expression remained vague but Lian cracked a smile with a slight tinge to his cheeks.

“Morning.”

“…Morn…ing…?”

He seemed unable to fully comprehend the situation because he was half-asleep, and in a voice that sounded like he was in a dream, he obediently repeated Alfred’s words without questioning them. He was lost for words.

Oh, how unbelievably cute.

While Alfred dropped his lips deeper into the other’s lips this time, he put his hand through the hem of his shirt and stroked his skin, and a breath that seemed to pass through Alfred’s nose leaked out.
